ChatGPT is a computer program that use artificial intelligence (AI) to understand and generate human-like text. It's a chatbot that can answer questions and write content such as articles, social media posts, essays, code, and emails.

The GPT stands for "Generative Pre-trained Transformer," which refers to how ChatGPT processes requests and formulates responses.

How does it work?

  • ChatGPT is trained on large amounts of text data.
  • It uses a transformer algorithm to learn how to generate text.
  • It's trained with reinforcement learning, which uses human feedback to improve its responses.
"That means it learns what to say by capturing information from the internet. It then uses all of this text to "generate" responses to questions or commands that someone might ask".

For example, you can ask the question, “Explain how climate change affects wild animals.” You can tell it, “Write me a lyrics for a certain song". You even ask it to create a reference page and use APA 7th edition.

Who founded the ChatGPT?
It was founded by the company OpenAI.

OpenAI is an American artificial intelligence (AI) research organization founded in December 2015 and headquartered in San Francisco, California. Its stated mission is to develop "safe and beneficial" artificial general intelligence (AGI), which it defines as "highly autonomous systems that outperform humans at most economically valuable work".

As a leading organization in the ongoing AI boom, OpenAI is known for the GPT family of large language models, the DALL-E series of text-to-image models, and a text-to-video model named Sora. Its release of ChatGPT in November 2022 has been credited with catalyzing widespread interest in generative AI.

  • "ChatGPT has many advantages, including its versatility, cost-effectiveness, and ability to automate tasks. However, it also has some disadvantages, such as privacy concerns, limited knowledge, and a lack of emotional intelligence".
